The Wellington Monument
The Wellington Testimonial rises above the lawns near the eastern end of the park. Completed in 1861, it is a striking example of how a city commemorates its history. Walk around the base to enjoy the bronze panels as well as the view of the obelisk.
On a guided ride, this is a place to connect the monument with Dublin’s complex past. The stops on our proposed tour will be selected to work with the group and the time available.
The Magazine Fort
This eighteenth-century gunpowder fort offers another perspective on the park’s military history. Recent conservation includes the restored Duke of Dorset Gate, a striking detail to look for as you explore its story. Our proposed bike tour explores its story from outside. The Papal Cross
The cross was erected for Pope John Paul II’s visit in September 1979. Set above open parkland, it marks a moment when this landscape became a gathering place on an extraordinary scale.
Áras an Uachtaráin and the US residence
The park is also home to Ireland’s President and the US Ambassador’s residence. Hear the story from outside their grounds. These working residences are explored from public areas, with views depending on access and the landscape.
Ashtown Demesne
Ashtown brings together a restored tower house, gardens and the visitor centre. For a separate castle or garden visit, the official visitor information has the latest tour times and opening hours.
Hole in the Wall, beside the park
On Blackhorse Avenue beside the park wall, the Hole in the Wall pub adds another chapter to the landscape’s local story. Known as Europe’s longest pub, its long façade is part of the pleasure of seeing it in person.
A stop here can make a lovely addition to a day in the area. Any refreshments forming part of a future guided tour will be specified in the confirmed package.
